The Opportunity
Our client, an acclaimed and growing New York hospitality group known for its critically praised restaurants and hotel F&B programs, is seeking an experienced, highly organized, and people-focused HR & Payroll Manager to join their Corporate Office team.
This is a hands-on role for an HR professional with a strong hospitality background who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys balancing strategic thinking with day-to-day execution. The HR & Payroll Manager will oversee payroll administration, benefits, HR operations, compliance, employee records, and HR systems while partnering closely with the HR Director and restaurant leadership.
The ideal candidate demonstrates exceptional attention to detail, sound judgment, discretion, and outstanding organizational skills — proactive, solutions-oriented, and committed to delivering a high standard of service while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle payroll across multiple restaurant locations via ADP Workforce Now, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws
- Maintain and administer the HRIS, keeping employee records, org data, and reporting accurate and up to date
- Administer employee benefits: new hire enrollments, qualifying life events, terminations, open enrollment, COBRA, and ongoing employee/vendor communication
- Coordinate onboarding and offboarding for a seamless, compliant experience
- Maintain personnel files, HR records, I-9 documentation, and employment records
- Administer leave programs (FMLA, Paid Family Leave, ADA accommodations, workers' comp)
- Serve as the primary HR point of contact for managers and employees
- Ensure compliance with employment laws and required HR documentation/postings
- Support employee relations: investigations, documentation, performance management, corrective actions
- Prepare employment letters, comp changes, promotions, and status changes
- Coordinate employment verifications and background checks
- Audit payroll, benefits, HRIS, and personnel records for accuracy and compliance
- Prepare HR/payroll reports and workforce metrics for leadership
- Partner with Operations, Finance, and outside vendors on payroll, benefits, and reporting
- Support compensation reviews, bonus administration, and annual compliance initiatives
- Identify opportunities to improve HR and payroll processes
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of progressive HR experience, including payroll administration
- Hospitality industry HR experience required; multi-unit restaurant experience strongly preferred
- Hands-on ADP Workforce Now payroll processing experience required
- Experience with Harri HRIS preferred (comparable systems considered)
- Strong knowledge of federal, NY State, and NYC employment law and wage/hour regulations
- Advanced Excel/Microsoft Office proficiency
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality
