People Director | Expanding Restaurant Brand

International Restaurant Brand operating in upper end of market is looking to bring on a People Director for the US restaurant portfolio. This position will oversee the development and expansion of the US HR platform as the business scales across the US. This role requires a seasoned HR professional who has expertise across all functional areas of Human Resources. The UK CPO and Corporate HR team will work closely with this position to help guide the development of the US corporate team and will help to inform US HR department development. That said, this position will have a good amount of autonomy to make impactful strategic and tactical decisions. Applicants with previous experience scaling businesses, creating and implementing systems and processes, and with solid knowledge of US labor laws (federal/state) are preferred. 


  • Maintaining an outstanding employee experience, and exceptionally high feedback, including responsibility for Best Companies process, from surveys to strategy, action plan and follow up
  • Ensuring company communication supports Company’s community, brand and culture, with overarching responsibility for Company’s communication platform “workplace”
  • Ensuring external communication (e.g. careers websites, social media, Glassdoor) represents Employer Brand, is used effectively to support company aims and has the right “tone of voice”
  • Overseeing the HR infrastructure, including all policies, processes, information and activity – with continuous improvement in line with Company’s ambition to be a world class employer
  • Supporting the People Team to develop and deliver annual and quarterly plans across all areas to progress company goals and the people strategy, including support for any new openings
  • Timely reporting of HR statistics and analysis to inform and monitor decision making
  • HR compliance, including for immigration, and employee relations – having the right systems and processes in place to prevent issues from arising, or to nip them in the bud and resolve them positively if they do
  • Supporting other Company goals, including sustainability, charity and volunteering, customer standards, safety.


  • 10+ years experience as senior HR Manager, with a minimum of 3 years of Director level experience
  • MUST have hospitality industry experience, preferably within independent Restaurants
  • Experience working with multi-state operations, with strong knowledge of Federal and State Labor Laws (NY, DC and IL)
  • Expertise in all functional areas of Human Resources including Organizational Structure, Employee Relations, Compliance & Risk Management, Talent Acquisition, Learning & Development, Compensation and Benefits, and HRIS
  • Sophisticated understanding of HR and culture, including how to embed values and good people management practices 
  • Demonstrable success in partnering with operational colleagues to set goals, design and deliver plans
  • Project management skills, ability to ensure work is effectively planned, communicated, implemented and reviewed  
  • Ability to use data to inform decision-making and assess performance, bringing the data to life for all parts of the organization
  • Comfort working to tight deadlines, managing multiple projects and a budget creatively to make it go far
  • Outstanding communication skills, aural, verbal and written; adept at representing the Brand externally, including by drafting Awards submissions, as well as other Employer Brand activity  
  • Good judgement, ability to balance different considerations to navigate people decisions and find solutions to problems
  • Good people skills – builds strong relationships with people at all levels and constructively resolves employee relations issues
  • Commitment to nurturing a happy, inclusive and productive team culture, and to supporting a high performing autonomous team 
  • SHRM, PHR certification a plus!
  • Spanish speaking a plus!
