Director of Training and Development

Salary: $100,000 – $115,000

Creative and Innovative Hospitality company is seeking a Director of Training and Development. This brand is rooted in events with a high touch service and creative culinary environment. The Director of Training and Development is responsible for assessing company-wide developmental needs, driving training initiatives, actively embodying hospitality, and leads employees during service. This position also creatively designs and implements programs and tools to educate, enhance performance, and celebrate achievements.

Core Responsibilities:

People & Training:

Create systems that are easy to follow, execute, and replicate for the Operations team in order to provide consistent, outstanding service at events.

Responsible for the overall creation, distribution, and upkeep of training materials for the Operations Team.

Develop and maintain Onboarding and Orientation curriculum such as Handbook, Service Manual, and other relevant company policies.

Responsible for outlining expectations for all operational new hires.

Liaise with Marketing team to conduct necessary walk-throughs for Head Chefs

on initial visit to the new venue(s).

Communicate Orientation schedule to Director of Events, and other members of

the hiring team for effective onboarding

Create and maintain Training Manuals and Training Programs for all Operations roles.

Update job descriptions and accompanying Service Manuals as needed

Research technological solutions (LMS – learning management software) to support training initiatives, and options for ease of execution and consistency

across venues, cities, etc

Develop training and development programs and objectives aligned with company goals

Obtain and/or develop effective training materials utilizing a variety of media

Train and coach managers, supervisors, and others involved in employee development efforts

Plan, organize, facilitate, and order supplies for employee development and training events

Conduct follow-up studies of completed trainings to evaluate and measure results

Modify/improve programs as needed

Provide training and mentorship to Operations managers regarding recruiting tactics

Coordinate with managers to forecast future hiring needs

Work with Human Resources to develop a Recruitment and Retention Strategy

Track and report out on recruiting metrics

Oversight of Culinary Team:

Manage and develop the Culinary Operations Managers

Recruit, interview, and hire Culinary staff

Review staffing levels (sous chefs) for all events and insure proper coverage is available

Review Ubeya on a weekly basis and proactively act to fill open Culinary (sous

chef) shifts in advance of an event

Operations & Event Management:

Support the Operations team in Event Management, as needed. .

Function as Event Lead and/or Sommelier, as needed. (Director of Training will

participate in leading events, a maximum of once per week, as indicated by the Events schedule)

Provide support and coaching for development of Event Operations Managers as needed.

Support staff and management as required during times of operational change 

Work Experience Requirements

2+ years’ experience as a general manager of a similar caliber concept
