
Controller | LA/Remote
DESCRIPTION:
A people first, notable LA-based independent restaurant group with 2 fine dining restaurants (and 2 in the works), seek a controller to be responsible for financially managing all aspects of the growing business. LA-based preferred but not required; remote-work arrangements can be considered for the right candidate.
This role will report directly to the managing partners and will have minimal interaction with the restaurant operators. The controller will complete financials, payables, income journal deposits, and other sensitive tasks including payroll and tax prep. Responsible for focusing on the profitability of the business, maintaining accurate and timely financial reporting, ensuring acceptable levels of internal control, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, and safeguards.
The Controller is responsible for:
Financial management of multi-site operation of fine dining establishments currently totaling $10M but budgeted to double by Q1 2024
Preparation, delivery of accurate monthly financial statements for F&B operations.
Identify, analyze variance to budget in operating statement with operational team.
Manage daily income audit, identification and correction of all variances.
Daily, Weekly reporting (including flash reporting).
Review purchasing, receivable, and inventory protocols.
Compile weekly AP packet for submission.
Review, process F&B tax reconciliations, payments.
Own Internal accounting controls, monthly inventory audit.
Preparation of monthly bank reconciliations and general ledger account reconciliations for F&B.
Manage F&B packages with Accounting Manager and all respective costs.
Reconciliation, payment of Sales and other contractual operational taxes.
Cash management, including flow statement generation and bank control.
Ad hoc analysis in conjunction with Operator (ie. revenue per hour, cover analysis, labor, cogs, pmix, menu engineering, comp reporting, POS prices versus Menu)
Maintain weekly theoretical versus actual tracking of labor standards.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of F&B synergies/areas of opportunity.
Generate, control staffing model and templates (based on Operator inputs).
Ensure all control functions that are established are followed by coworkers/employees.
Preparation of any special reports, statements, etc., as requested.
Other special projects and responsibilities as assigned.
Compliance with company accounting policies and procedures and internal controls for our finance and accounting operations
Effectively manage and communicate related issues related to management of receivables, payables, daily cash balances, and timely deposits of all funds
Overseeing AP, AR, treasury, and financial reporting
Implementing controls, processes, procedures in the current and soon to be opened businesses.
Generate and manage pre-opening budget with Managing Partners
Finance side of building budget operational and pre-opening (with operator assumptions)
REQUIREMENTS:
3-5 years in restaurants, hotels, or hospitality
Experience operating large costs and revenue centers preferred
LA-based preferred but not required; remote-work arrangements can be considered for the right candidate.
Digitally inclined, proficient with the ability to automate processes using Google Suite, PlateIQ, and other digital tools.
Quickbooks fluent
Must be kind
Process oriented and high degree of organizational skills
High level of ownership, accountability, and self-management
Working knowledge of GAAP. Strong numeracy and analytical skills. Good problem-solving and time management skills.
